Established in 2015, Bunka Suginami Canadian International School (BSCIS), an accredited British Columbia Offshore School, offers a unique educational model for students in grades 7-12. Our approach begins with our host, Bunka Gakuen University Suginami Junior and Senior High School. With a rich history of over 50 years, and as part of the renowned Bunka Gakuen educational foundation—home to Japan’s leading fashion institution—our host school is rooted in a long tradition of excellence and creativity. To this foundation, we introduce the dynamic, competency-based framework of the British Columbia curriculum. This learning style is designed to go beyond simply knowing facts, encouraging students to develop Core Competencies in critical thinking, communication, and social responsibility. It challenges them to apply their knowledge creatively to solve complex problems.
The result of this integrated journey is that upon graduation, our students earn two distinct official qualifications: the Japanese High School Certificate and the British Columbia Dogwood Diploma. We believe this dual certification, a feature that distinguishes our program, is a meaningful recognition of the students' deep engagement in both cultures and curricula. The success of this approach is reflected in our graduates, who are welcomed by leading universities at home and around the world.
