The BC Program has 3 assessments as part of the graduation requirements. On Monday November 1st all grade 10, 11 and 12 students will write their Literacy Assessment. The grade 10 and 11 students will do the Grade 10 Assessment and the Grade 12s will complete the Grade 12 Assessment. Last year, due to the pandemic, the grade 10s did not write so they are doing the assessment this year. The teachers have been working at getting the students prepared for the exam.

Start of Term 2 / New Staff

9/1/2021

It seems like the year just started and now we are already in term 2. As you know, Bunsugi has started Term 2 online but we hope that classes will be back in person as soon as possible. I would like to thank Ms. Travis, Mr. Ito and Mr. La Rosa for their hard work in running another successful Social Studies 10 program this summer. I would also like to thank Ms. Haleem and Mr. La Rosa for teaching the demonstration lesson to grade 6 students. We have had a couple staff changes over the summer and I am very pleased to announce that Mr. Korch will be joining us as the new Eng / SS 11 teacher. Mr. Korch brings significant experience from both BC and Vietnam to BSCIS. Mr. D'aigle is also joining the staff and will be teaching in the 7/8/9 DD Prep Program. Mr. D'aigle also brings a wide variety of experiences to the staff at BSCIS.

Starting on May 6, 2021 classes at BSCIS will be online. The teachers are fully prepared to meet the challenge of teaching this way and we hope that we will be back in person very soon. We have given students some guidelines on working in remote Zoom classes but we also know that most of them worked this way last year.

Welcome Back To School!

I am sorry it has taken me so long to make this first entry but I will try to update the blog on a weekly basis. I just wanted to introduce myself . My name is Ed Nielsen and I am very happy to be the new principal of BSCIS. This is my 35th year in education. I spent the first 21 as a high school teacher in British Columbia and the last 14 as a school administrator. I spent most of my time in various places in British Columbia but I was also the principal of a BC Offshore school in Cairo.

It has been a really good start to the year and we are hoping to get our last teacher over to Japan in the next few weeks. Please don't hesitate to reach out and email me if you have any questions or concerns.
